WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) voiced his support for the passing of H.R.815, known as the National Security Act, in a strong bipartisan Senate vote of 79-18. Senator Rounds emphasized the significance of the bill, stating, "Today the United States Senate reaffirmed our leadership role in the world."

The bill, which matches the funding levels of the original Senate legislation passed in February, includes substantial allocations for key regions and initiatives. Notably, it provides $26.4 billion for Israel and humanitarian aid, with specific provisions for defense systems such as the Iron Dome and Iron Beam. Additionally, $60.8 billion is designated for Ukraine to support their defense efforts, with a significant portion set to benefit the U.S. defense industrial base.

In response to growing concerns about Chinese aggression, the bill allocates $8.13 billion for the Indo-Pacific theater to enhance deterrence measures. Furthermore, a provision in the bill mandates Tik Tok to divest from their Chinese-owned parent company within nine months, or face a ban on the app.

Senator Rounds highlighted that the bill also addresses other global challenges, including imposing sanctions on Iran for terrorist activities and targeting Mexican drug cartels involved in trafficking fentanyl. The comprehensive nature of the legislation reflects a concerted effort to bolster national security and support key allies in the face of evolving threats.

The passage of the National Security Act underscores a unified bipartisan commitment to upholding the United States' position as a global leader and protector of democratic principles.
